MATT HLADIK

Commissioning Specialist

Matt Hladik is a Commissioning Specialist who joined JHE in April 2019. Prior to joining the team, Matt spent four years with Austin Water as an electrical maintenance technician, and also a technician and electrical inspector. During this time, Matt earned his Master Electrician license to complement his 12 years of experience in the electrical construction field. At the beginning of his career, Matt completed a five-year apprenticeship program in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 520, ranking first across all five years in the program. Consequently, he was selected to represent Local 520 in the apprentice competition for the seventh district (which covers five states), placing second overall.

Over the course of his career, Matt has tried several different trades. Chief amongst them are the two professional racing teams he has worked with. On the first, he worked as a fueler for an American LeMans team that ran a Ferrari 333SP. He spent the first couple of months trying to figure out why everybody called him “The Wick” before realizing that the wick was the first thing to catch fire on a candle, hence the nickname. He also brags about the fact that he has driven a million-dollar Ferrari, usually leaving out that it was being towed back to the garage by a golf cart at the time.

In his personal life, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Karen and his son Joshua. Matt and Josh are active in the Boy Scouts with weekend camping trips being one of their favorite activities. When not out camping, the family weekend includes one of Matt and Karen’s favorite things to do: finding a great brunch locale. During the summer months, the day just isn’t complete without a dip in the pool.

Problem solving and attention to details are skills that Matt has refined and uses every day. This is true whether at the track working on million-dollar race cars, or at a multi-million dollar pump station commissioning and startup project. Satisfaction is knowing that when it is time to “turn the key,” everything is going to be safe and run smoothly.
