ELENA BALL

Commissioning Specialist

Elena Ball joined JHE in December 2022 as a Commissioning Specialist. In early 2023, she supported her first commissioning and start-up of a new water treatment plant. She enjoyed working with and testing each subsystem with the rest of the JHE team. While trouble shooting technical or mechanical issues, Elena worked closely with the manufacturer’s representatives to learn the ins and outs of the equipment and its intended functionality. This experience affirmed her interests in the commissioning and startup process for the water and wastewater industry.

Prior to joining the team, Elena was an Energy System Designer for Tesla. She graduated from the University of Arizona in May 2021, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering and Minor in Mechanical Engineering. Her studies were focused on Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and aquaponics. For her senior capstone project, she worked with a team of fellow engineering students to design, build, and test a mechanical grasshopper catching kart. Elena’s experience in aquaponics provides an excellent foundation for her transition into the water and wastewater industry.

As a transplant from southern Illinois, now residing in Arizona, she finds some respite from the heat by visiting the Santa Catalina Mountains. In her free time, Elena enjoys nature walks, photography, playing video games, and tending to her aquariums. Some of her favorite video games include Fortnite, The Last Of Us, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Elena has been a fish hobbyist since college when she was maintaining residential koi ponds and flipping and re-homing old aquariums.
